CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the CranioSacral system, comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds and protects the brain and spinal cord.
Using a soft touch, practitioners use sensitive and exact finger pressure to release restrictions in the CranioSacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. There is no bone manipulation and none of the high-velocity and short amplitude thrusts associated with chiropractic work. When a restriction is released or removed, the system is able to self-correct. The body has an amazing capacity to heal itself!
Equine CranioSacral (ECS) work is a hollstic healing practice which uses extremely light finger pressure to optimize body movement. This gentle and subtle technique can be high effective in addressing a number of conditions in the horse.
Originally called osteopathy and then later craniopathy, CranioSacral work originated from the groundwork of Osteopath, Dr. William Sutherland in the early 1900's. Dr. Sutherland, the father of osteopathy, was the first to sense the extremely minute movement that is referred to as the cranial "wave or rhythm". The CranioSacral "rhythm" is different from the heartbeat and is respiratory rate but is still measurable by scientific standards. It moves between 8-14 cycles per minute and can be palpated anywhere in the body.
This rhythm is present in all tissues of the body. When body tissues are subjected to stress or trauma, physical or emotional, this rhythm can be disrupted. Once they have determined where the restrictions are located, the CranioSacral practitioner palpates the rhythm to assist the animal's body in releasing the stored injury or trauma. The body has an amazing capacity to heal itself! When an animal is in balance emotionally and physically, they are healthy.
